Camp NaNoWriMo, July, Day Eleven: ExcerptMy eyes flutter back open and I whimper as I look forward to where the voice came from. There's the shadow of a child in the distance, one I didn't notice earlier. It trembles and I huff quietly, barely choking out through my parched throat, "I... will..."The shadow flinches, then I hear its footsteps run to me and see her face as she squats in front of me, putting her hand to my forehead, "Are... you... okay..?"I blink slowly, "No... Go away... I'd like to die alone... That's what I deserve."She scowls and takes my sword from my hand, setting it off to the side and slowly putting her arms under me, pushing me up against the wall so I'm sitting. She must be about fifteen, her green eyes shimmering in the dimed light, "Did you come to rescue me?" she whispers.I shake my head slowly, "No... Go away... I'd like to di-""You aren't going to die! Come on, we'll get out of here together! If you promise to help me I can give you some food and water!" she offers.I purse my lips, then see
Camp NoNoWriMo, July, Day Ten: Excerpt I am everything that came before me, I am the collected mess of what they are. I must keep up in all of their footsteps. I am this, this is me, I can't hide, I can't run, I can't cower, I can only try to raise above them. I am this, this is me, I can't hate, I can't blame, I can only travel forward. I am this, this is me, I can't have hope, I can't have love, I can't have truth, I must move with only myself. I am this, this is me, I can't sulk, I can't cry, I can't shake this away, I can only live while I keep on dying.I laugh at everything around me, there is nothing that cares for me anymore, I don't mind. I was left long ago, I was torn from every moment, ever second of all other living truth. I am myself, I'm not them, they are me, I lead them, they just came first, walked forward without knowledge that they were born from my very existence, they exist because of my birth. They are my fault, but it's not my fault that they are. She is me, and I am her. She does not know it as
Camp NaNoWriMo, July, Day Nine: ExcerptGulping, I drop to my knees, clutching my hands in fists. Fear is sinking in, deep fear, the kind that won't resolve itself, the kind that will only get worse till I can be warm in safe in somebody's arms. Rayon, I think. Rayon, I want. Rayon. I lift my hands to my chain and close my eyes, swaying back and forth. I wish I had never taken out my sword, never let myself see my surroundings. And I'm to die here too, I'm sure of it. I have to wonder where it is, though I don't want to know. I barely peek again, stare for a moment, then quickly make my sword go dark, leaving just the speck of light far off to my left. I watch it instead, imagining it is the first star in a sky that will soon fill with many more. Slowly, I open my mouth. Quietly, I start to sing. The words are foreign, a song my mother used to sing to me as she rocked me to sleep, a song I never knew what meant, but it pushed my fears off my shoulders. I can hear her voice in my own, gently erasing the tremble of my whispere
Camp NaNoWriMo, July, Day Eight: ExcerptThe cloth above the door moves aside and a bell rings as the man I tried to talk to earlier walks in. He removes the cloth around his face and I see a scruffy beard beneath.I shudder slightly as he looks around and I instinctively scoot my chair closer to Sheild's.He huffs quietly, "Don't do anything stupid, Mortal."I flinch, glancing at him momentarily, "Is he... following us..?""Probably.""Is he going to kill me?""Pro-""No, no one's killing anyone in my inn."The woman's returned, a tray of food in her arms. She hands me a plate of bread slices, covered in cream, and I recognize it as the same stuff that Liche gave me the first time. I twitch slightly and she glances at me, "Something wrong?"I bite my lip and pull the plate to me slowly, picking up one of the slices, "N-no... it's fine..."She rolls her eyes and hands me a cup of water, pulling up a chair and sitting between Shield and me, "So, how'd you two meet?""He kidnapped me." I say blankly and he grunts. The wom
Camp NoNoWriMo, July, Day Seven: ExcerptIt is silent between us, and I'm thankful for that, but she doesn't seem to like the silence much, opening her mouth in only a few minuets, "What? Did something traumatic happen to you as a child?! Were you tortured?! Starved?! Neglected?!"I grunt, "No.""Well then, what is it?!"Nothing.""It's not nothing! It has to me something!""It's nothing." I assure her, but she won't believe me."Maybe when you were an infant you were dropped on your head!""No.""Kicked in the head?!""No.""Thrown into a ceiling fan?!""No.""Do you have brain damage?!"I groan and stop, "Shut up."She scowls, "No! I want to know why you're so... eh..."I roll my eyes and start moving again, "I'm not eh. I don't know what eh is."She growls in frustration, "You know what I mean!""No, Mortal, I don't."She practically screams, her fists trembling at her side, "THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOU!"
